Is it possible to accomplish the impossible? Ernesto and the Apollo 13 crew both undertook missions to prove they could accomplish their goals using patience, hard work, and determination with struggles on being an American and surviving in space. Both Barrio Boy and Apollo 13 crew used the hope from their loved to ones to accomplish their missions. Barrio Boy and Apollo 13 both had one mission to accomplish. Ernesto Galarza’s was to become an American and learn the English language, while the Apollo 13’s was to make it back to earth safely. Ernesto Galarza was, he had to learn a different language and make new friends. He was in first grade and Miss Ryan was his teacher. Miss Ryan was also his first friend at the school. She helped him learn the English language. Ernesto met friends from around the world with the same hardships. The first word Ernesto could say is butterfly. “ I conquered butterfly ,“ Ernesto said while the whole class was cheering for him. Saying the littlest words like butterfly made them burst into happiness.
Unlike the hardships we face on earth, the Apollo 13 team faced life threatening hardships in space. The Apollo 13 crew faced serious risk of death, but never gave up. The crew learned how to endure a hardship. “The trip was marked by discomfort beyond lack of food and water.” No matter how much water or food they had left, they stayed determined to survive.
