These two systems are quite different, even though they have a few similarities, such as the elections taking place every four years and the voting age being 18. The swedish election process is much less complicated and way shorter than the american process. And I think it does affect the voter turnout. According to Statistic Brain 2016, only 57 percent of americans eligible to vote voted in the 2012 Presidential election. Meanwhile in Sweden 85.81 percent voted. The American people are on the verge of electing a president who does not believe global warming is real, is racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic and so on. I have had a really hard time trying to understand how it is possible that Donald Trump got this far in the election. But when you think about it, it actually makes sense. You see, Trump might not be a politician but he is a businessman and he knows how to sell things - including himself. I have noticed that when he speaks he uses a very simple language and he repeats a lot which makes it easier for people who are not interested in politics to keep up. He feeds into people's fears more than he gives any actual solutions to problems.
