“Diversity Practices: Contrasting the Practices of the Philippines and the United States”
KEYWORD:
Diversity is being unique of each individual in different dimensions such as race, gender, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, physical appearance, abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs and other ideologies. Difference of each individual has a good and bad side depending on the set goal and its outcome. To best illustrate diversity let’s compare 2 different nationality that has great impact with each other, Philippines and United States.

Enumerated below are some of the barriers that cause the Glass ceiling;
1. Societal Barrier, which hinders woman to obtain the proper education and training required to advance into a management position
2. Internal structural barriers, culture dictated by the organization that alienate woman. Biased rating and testing systems.
3. Government Barriers, inadequate law that helps woman to be equally recognize in the industry.
In USA, a survey was created back in 1995 on human resources manager from 304 large industry and service firm to understand the reason of class ceiling. The result was, male managers claimed to be uncomfortable with those unlike themselves (Women, Women in color) and lack of accountability and incentives to develop diversity. (Gambler, pg. 275-276) Glass wall is a segregation of woman into position because of their gender. This ceiling is gender driven putting women on positions that they think they’re best at such as secretarial and clerical post, Job such as teacher and nurse because of their nurturing instinct. Lastly Glass Escalator, it is the difference in upward advancement between men and women in the workplace, particularly those workplaces that are female dominated.

These concepts are both present in both Philippines and USA, women are not treated equally even though they are capable both physically and mentally to perform the task. Until women prove their worth by making a change to the world. Equality and diversity are both critical and effective in the workplace because it creates an opportunity for different people from different places to collaborate and come up with different ideas that will greatly benefit the organization. Benefits such as Talent Pool that provides biggest advantage of having an employment recruitment policy that values diversity. Employees from all races, classes, creeds, religions, ages and political viewpoints should be recruited based on competencies and skill sets, without regard to gender or disability. Second is organizational productivity, it is when Human resources channels and harness varied skills, specialized competencies and distinctive capabilities of employees of multiple races and minority classes, it can result in creative solutions for problems and better organizational productivity. Also varied viewpoint wherein teams working on a large project can draw on different experiences of fellow coworkers from a diverse background. This can
