Stephan King usually gets an idea from a real life experience. For example, he was working as a janitor at a school. As he was cleaning the women’s changing room, he got an idea. The idea later turned into his bestseller, “Carrie” (King, 2014). In contrast to Stephan King’s technique, Edgar Allan Poe likes to start from the ending. He believes that to write a good story, you have to know how it will end (Jones & Permalink, n.d.). They also use different types of writing. Stephan King uses modern words, he likes to be straightforward and tell how a character looks or what is happening in the scene. On the other hand, Edgar Allan Poe likes to write very descriptively; he also doesn't use modern words (obviously). Stephan King also has more sex and swear words in his work, Edgar Allan Poe likes to write more about insanity. For example, in his story “The Tell-tale Heart”, the main character goes insane and at the end he gives in to the police. Stephan King, however, writes about the dark and evil side of a person. Edgar Allan Poe is widely regarded as one of literature’s pioneers for the horror and crime genre. His influence has inspired countless writers, including Stephen King, to follow the path of this genre he so thoughtfully initiated. In many of Poe’s works, readers will also see considerable amounts of perversion in the narrators that can be off-putting, yet add interest to the story line, as these episodes are not seen in everyday life. Poe’s work is greatly acclaimed for its use of what is known as an unreliable narrator in stories such as The Black Cat and The Tell-Tale Heart. Suspense is another characteristic seen in Poe’s stories, and narrative poems, which leaves his audience longing to reach the conclusion in order to determine exactly what sorts of evils were at work.…

There are two writers that have really sparked and changed the crime fiction genre and in my opinion there are few that have really impacted media and production films as much as Edgar Allen Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Edgar Allen Poe was really the first major contributor to the genre and outside of this course, he was one of the only crime fiction writers that my school exposed me to. In this writing I will explore Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s writing style as well as Edgar Allen Poe’s writing style and look into how these two writers are similar and how it has affected the genre. The largest similarity that I have picked up on between Edgar Allen Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the way that their characters solve problems through deductive reasoning.…

King might be best known for writing horror novels but On Writing is a real work of high art and transforms genre in the otherwise dreading and plethora style of writing books. Dr. Lawrence Nannery, a professor of philosophy at St. Francis College, defines high art as having a full understanding of the work “can enhance an understanding of other aspects of life as well” and “does not reveal everything it has in one exposure.” For example, in prose, writing genres work to normalize certain academic aspects and beliefs embodied within them. But these aspects are often portrayed so incorrectly that they either border on, or are completely submerged in ideology. However, King transforms this genre and doesn't reveal it so easily and freely, what he does is makes individuals understand concepts that are otherwise unattainable in an unpredictable and unorthodox manner.…

Edgar Allan Poe’s techniques have indeed proven their efficiency. Not only do they allow the reader to accept the uncanny side of the story, but they also inspire future writers to write similar works based on Poe’s texts. To name a modern classic book that resembles Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, one must not look farther than Stephen King’s 1977 horror novel: The Shining. The critically acclaimed book, which instantaneously lifted Stephen King’s rank among horror authors worldwide, parallels a myriad of devices used in The Fall of the House of Usher.…

In literature, there is a cornucopia of authors whose works are arguably more different than they are similar. However, even through the seemingly stark contrast of various authors, there are similarities that are way too often overlooked or just unconsidered. Edgar Allan Poe and Washington Irving were authors most renowned for their short stories during the Romantic Era of literature, each having their own unique style. Poe was known for his use of horror and the dark characteristics of human nature, and Irving for his use of fantasy and humor of different varieties. Two seemingly different approaches to literature by two seemingly different authors . . .…

Edgar Allen Poe is an American writer that is world renown for his dark writing style, which allows the reader to be engulfed into his tales of horror and mystery. The Cask of Amontillado is a classic Poe style story that is littered with unexpected twists and turns around every corner. The reader is able to watch from afar as the main character seeks revenge against his “friend” Fortunato. Poe’s ability to create a character like Montresor amazes me because of the unique way in which he reveals the main characters poor mental health without directly stating that he is insane. The gradual realization of this is what makes the story so unique to Poe’s style.…
