Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe are two of the biggest authors in the horror genre reason being, Poe and King had a big influence in literature because of their writing styles and technique. Such as, Poe’s influence on King in his younger years, Poe being a part of the romanticism era, and king’s use of description. In addition, despite King and Poe growing up in different era’s their upbringing, writing styles and, impact in the horror community are almost similar to one another. Ultimately, Poe and King are two influential authors who both similar yet different at the same time because of their lifestyles, writing styles and, influences in horror.

That being said Charles Baudelaire and King are both authors who admire Poe’s work and even draw inspiration from it. For example, Baudelaire talks about how he came across Poe’s work when he was twenty six and how he thought “in a vague, confused, and disorderly way” about Poe’s short stories. In addition, another author impressed by Poe’s work is King which he says “he discovered Poe…in grammar school” (Pollin 94) and from there on out was inspired by his short stories and even uses parts of them in his novels such as, The Shining. Although, these hardships impacted both King and Poe at different ages they found an outlet to let out the melancholy feelings they once withheld which was literature. While, they got their start at different times both of these men felt more connected with the horror genre which introduced the world to some of the greatest short stories and poems of their time. Furthermore, many of Poe and kings work inspired both readers and authors to create more twisted and eerie tales that would scare and interest the reader.
