Alternative medicine is a different medical style which is more about a natural way to treat an illness. There are many different types of alternative medicine, but its main focus is to help treat both the mind and body. Alternative medicine even can treat illnesses from colds, skin cancer, and even mood disorders. Alternative medicine is a totally different approach to healing people that not many people actually know about. This different method of curing people has been around for centuries now. Both Western and Eastern medicine are two totally different styles of medicine.Western medicine is when doctors and nurses use pills, radiation, and surgery to help cure their patient (“NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms.”). Western medicine main focus is to use different types of methods like surgery or radiation to help get rid of a person's illness. Eastern medicine is the total opposite of Western medicine. Eastern medicine uses natural herbs as medicines, and helps to improve the mind and body. Eastern medicine actually originates from ancient China (“Traditional Chinese Medicine”). An example of eastern medicine can be acupuncture and tai chi. Acupuncture is when a person gets small thin needles inserted into specific spots on their body like pressure points. While Tai Chi is a form of Chinese art, it combines both the mind and body for meditation with deep, slow breathing to help with relaxation (“Traditional Chinese Medicine”). These are two totally different ways of curing people. Although western medicine is more widely used since it is scientifically proven. In certain cases, eastern medicine can be more effective depending on an individual's health issue. Deepak Chopra is a pretty well known Indian cardiologist (“Deepak Chopra”). While he was in India he was studying medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Science, but then in the 1970’s, he left India to go to the United States to learn about western medicine (“Deepak Chopra”). When he started to learn more about western medicine. He also started to meet more new people who also studied medicine. Then he was introduced to a whole new style of medicine, which was eastern medicine. He started to become fascinated by these methods and totally different styles.
