Compare And Contrast Dunbayne And Beowulf

In Beowulf and The Castles of Athlin and Dunbayne, one can see many similarities between Beowulf and the Baron, Osbert. Along with this, they do have their differences, although some of these might only be slight differences. Nevertheless, these two virtuous characters were two looked up to throughout history, and one can definitely see why their values soon became that of the society's depiction of a good king. One could definitely see the comparative and contrasting traits of the historical times, and social expectations. Osbert and Beowulf have many similarities- these concordances are what the peoples of the time often looked up to; a virtuous king. For example, Osbert fought Malcolm of the Dunbayne clan out of vengeance for his father's unjust death, hoping to fight the man who murdered the deceased Earl. Likewise, Beowulf fought the monster who had been terrorizing kingdoms with multiple murders within palaces to avenge his friend's abrupt death. One thing was that Beowulf avenged a close friend, but Osbert sought vengeance for his father- against his mother's word. Due to what Osbert did, his mother became very ill, but in contrast, everyone was excited about Beowulf's journey for vengeance. The two warriors' injuries were also different- at the end of Beowulf's story, he was mortally wounded, and he died. Osbert was hurt many, many times but only came close to death- he survived and got a happy ending. However, Beowulf ended with a melancholy Viking's funeral. Beowulf had no siblings mentioned in his epic, but Osbert had one sister in his book- Mary, who also became distraught, as their mother
