Compare And Contrast Driving And Drunk Driving

It is late, and a driver is on their way home from a night out with family and friends. They are driving down a dark road around three in the morning. All of a sudden, they see headlights coming straight for them, so they lay in on their horn, blink their lights, and the other driver sways back into their lane. The driver thinks to himself that driver must be drunk, but in actuality, the driver just pulled a double and was on his way home to get some sleep. Drowsy driving and drunk driving are similar and very dangerous. They both can end tragically. Driving drowsy can be just as dangerous as driving drunk; both can lead to poor judgment, an accident, or even death.

Drunk driving have organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and Teens Against Drunk Driving. Unfortunately, the are no known organizations advocating against drowsy driving. At this present time, there is no way of know how sleepy a person is while they are driving or after an accident. There is a system that simulate sleepiness in commercial drivers, and night shift workers. Murray W. Johns created the Johns Drowsiness Scale or JDS, “This technology has enabled several variables to be identified that can be used in combination to quantify drowsiness on a new scale” (67). This will allow authorities to regulate the time commercial drivers are on the road.
