The PhD prepares nurses to carry out research involving nursing whether national, international or regional level, while that of DNP degree prepares nurses for leadership role in academic, management or health information technology.
Lastly is Time: Nurses should consider after being in school for a long time, getting to that stage how many years they can still add to acquire doctorate degree. It varies with each university. DNP takes 2 to 3 years after masters while PhD is 4 to 5 years to complete.
Having reviewed the three differences, I would prefer PhD to DNP because of name recognition which is so prestigious, the job opportunity such as research cannot be restricted to only nursing, again, I like it because you have the opportunity to work or share ideas with nurses or other health personnel on national, international or regional level.
