Compare And Contrast Digit Ratio

Decent Essays
The 2D-4D digit ratio does not tell us about any information about one’s biological sex. However, the digit ratio can be predictive of an individual’s physical fitness, sexual orientation, aggression and academic performance to a certain degree.Because digit ratio is continuum, it varies among population just like the gender identities and sexualities people identify themselves with differ from individual to individual. In contrast, because sex is mostly binary, there are less variations among population comparing to that of digit ration. Therefore, there would be more correlation between digit ratio and gendered behavior or sexuality than between digit ration with biological sex.

The study by Romano et al shows that there is a positive correlation

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition where remarkable gender differences have been observed in the recent past. With that said, there has been few longitudinal studies that investigate gender/sex differences in individuals with ASD, and there is still much to learn about how and why ASD affects it affects the genders differently (May, 20__, p.1078). Perhaps the most important issue that arises when ASD is investigated through a gendered lens is that of the vast disparity in the diagnosis of ASD between boys and girls. As Harrop et al. (2014, p.766) note, there is a 4 to 1 average “male dominance” in the diagnoses of ASD in children, Harrop further notes that this ratio can rise to as high 8 to 1 when particular types of autism are being diagnosed.…

There are many differences between both males and females, from anatomy to the gender assigned roles of society. Through the decades, the gender roles have been put into play, in not only our society, but also the societies around the world. “Sex and Temperament” written by Margaret Mead, explores the cultural norms of societies around the globe and how they align with the norms we have become accustom to in our daily lives. “This study is not concerned with whether there are or are not actual and universal differences between the sexes, either quantitative or qualitative.” (Mead, 710)…

Throughout the engaging and thought-provoking scientific research publication of Living with Our Genes by Dean Hammer and Peter Copeland, the main concept explored is concerned with the idea of the environment or genetic make-up being the deciding factors in each and every individual’s personality. A concept such as genetic makeup, seems to be the definitive and decisive factor in the eight specified sub-topics explored throughout book, which are thrills, worry, anger, addiction, sex, thinking, hunger, and aging. The subtopic, labeled as thrills, uncovers the act of novelty seeking. Novelty seeking entails novel stimuli, which can be physical, mental, and social stimuli. The primary idea presented deals with the fact that people with the need…

In the article “Different but (Probably) Equal”, Olivia Judson makes her claim stating male and females are inherently different due to different factors such as genetics and brain chemistry, but this does not necessarily make one sex better than another. The author uses mainly logos, or logical facts, such as examples of differences in appearance or behavior throughout the animal kingdom to prove her point successfully. Judson backs up her claim with scientific evidence and ultimately proves her point efficiently and effectively. Judson opens her article with a hypothesis: male and female humans are virtually indistinguishable when it comes to behavior and intellectual prowess.…

Gender surrounds us daily through our beliefs, actions, and behavior. Gender differences and equality have become a major topic in the area of education. This paper will examine the differences between males and females and what future educators can do to in promoting equal opportunity under the multicultural education concept. Research has shown the biological differences between males and females are based on the X and Y-chromosomes that verify the sex of the child and signify a minute quantity of the total gene pool (Gollnick and Chinn 2013). According to Gollnick and Chinn (2013:111) "Males and females share roughly 99.8% of their genes."…

In addition, Becker illustrates the importance of looking at familiar events, because this is when one is able to gain insight on different perspectives, such as in how one becomes a marijuana user. In fact, most marijuana users do not like it the first place, but will after many tries because they would have then learned the proper way to get high. Therefore, the marijuana users have to “learn to recognize the effects and connect them with drug use and then learn to enjoy the sensation they perceive” (5). The marijuana does not just work, as users have to have a specific perception of the drug for its pleasurable effects cause the individual to want to do it again. Therefore, once the feeling of fear and distasteful taste disappears, the user…

It was commonly believed in existence of femininity and masculinity but no account was taken of people who had many features of both of them. Therefore Bem (1974) intended the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) to measure femininity, masculinity and androgyny. As explained by Bem and Lenney (1976) androgynous individuals possess the characteristics of both, masculinity and femininity and they are not as limited in stereotyped behaviour associated with mentioned above sex-typed persons. Moreover, androgynous individuals are psychologically in better shape and fit better in the society then other, traditionally sex- typed people (Bem, 1974). The outcome of BSRI, especially the androgyny and abilities of androgynous individual influenced conducting…
