The author, Michael Pollan, believes that feeding corn to cattle is bad for the cattle. To begin, Pollan states that, “Basically, almost all of the cattle in the feedlot are sick and it’s their corn-based diet that makes them ill” (58). He explains that since all feedlots feed corn to their cattle, most of the cattle are sick which means the cattle aren’t healthy. He also goes on to explain that, “Cattle rarely live on feedlots diets for more than 150 days…” (59). This means that the cattle on a feedlot don’t live for a long time which means there is a large amount of deaths in a feedlot.…

Unfortunately in that year Washington, D.C. recorded a single case of Mad Cow Disease (Hanrahan & Becker, 2006, p.1).When humans consume beef containing the disease, their brains begin to degenerate (Hanrahan & Becker, 2006). Upon the U.S. announcement of the case, Japan suspended all of its imports of U.S. beef products. It was a blow to the U.S. as she was losing the principal importer of U.S. beef with the market valued at $1.2 billion in 2003 (Hanrahan & Becker, 2006, p.2). The death of the organism normally takes about 1 to 24 hours but it also depends on the dosage and how much has been consumed. Veganism is something I find to be overlooked. Vegans, in addition to being vegetarian, do not use other animal products and by-products derived from animal products. People wonder if we would be healthier with a vegan diet, and I’m here to argue yes, not only would we be healthier with a vegan diet, but there comes benefits to going vegan that could help our ecosystem. Although carnists argue against Veganism due to calorie efficiency, it’s actually easily solved with vitamins and minerals. What many people don’t know is the mistreatment of farm animals.…

The effects of animal agriculture are more of a secret than they should be. Not many people view it as a problem, because they have no idea how harmful its effects are for the environment. Animal agriculture is responsible for 80-90% of the U.S. water consumption and many more alarming statistics. This is a problem that needs to be taken care of right away. If Minnesota Food Connection starts educating people in the Midwest on the harmful effects of animal agriculture and they switch to a plant-based diet, then we could lessen or solve the problems associated with animal agriculture in the Midwest area.…
