“Aren’t Cross Country and track like the same thing?” That is the question many runners get a lot, and it drives us crazy. This is because they are not the same thing at all. Yes you do run competitively against other teams, however they are both very different from one another, including the distances, terrain, and how much time the meet takes. The first thing I want to point out when running cross country is the distance, for both boys and girls it is a 5k race (3.1 miles). According to Maddie Verbeke “You arrive, the gun goes off, and everyone runs the same race. That’s it. Other than differences between high school and college, there’s no variety in XC.” (Maddie Verbeke) As for track the longest race distance is the 3200 meter run (2 …show more content…
Aside from track having the shorter race, track also has many different races and events such as the 100 meter dash and the 4X4 relay. Not only does track have running events it has field events a well which include Discuss, shot put, long jump, high jump and pole vault. Cross country has one long distance race and track has a variety of races and race distances. On the other hand Track teams are bigger for the simple fact there are a variety of events that XC does not offer. Another difference between these two sports would be the terrain. In Cross County you have to be prepared for anything the course throws at you such as hills, mud, or sand. “In cross country, we can run our meets anywhere in the grass. We have courses on soccer fields, golf courses, parks, and even cornfields.” (LOVETORUN17) For track it's pretty straightforward you run around an oval track. There are different types of distance for the track length, an outdoor track is 400 meters around. And an indoor track is 200 meters around.“In track and field, you always know what the track is going to look like,” Rietz said. “In cross country, the

And this isn’t even your everyday running to the fridge for a snack within the 20-second time span between Netflix episodes. We’re talking a whopping 26.2 miles. So surely everyone who runs this distance without pleading for death must be out of their mind, right? If that is the case then the elite, prestigious cult of marathon runners is clearly insane.…

I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. This Bible verse has had significant meaning to me particularly while running track in high school. Track is a sport that requires hard work, determination, speed, focus, and self-discipline.…

After an entire summer of training on just cement, I knew I was in shape, but I did not think I would have ever been prepared for my first hill day. This was my first year on the Scotus cross country team. I ran track last year and did not think it was too hard.…

A cross country race usually lasts around twenty minutes, I’ve some people finish as fast as sixteen minutes, but that’s very unusual. Track races, on the other hand, last at most about 10 minutes if that, but the sprinting events last less than a minute. I’d rather watch one longer race than a few shorter races, but depending on the weather, the race distance, and the environment my answer could…

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…

Bang, the gun sounds. I sprint out of my box, following teammates in pursuit of the leader. The pack of cross country runners appears to envelop me from my parent’s sight. Which is more beneficial, team sports or individual sports? When comparing team and individual sports, most people do not realize how easy it is to pick out the similarities and differences the two have. Individual and team sports have the same main purpose, but the motivation, competitiveness, and life skills set them apart. In athletics, most athletes set goals for themselves, whether it is a personal goal or a team goal. It is pretty easy to set a goal, but the person setting the goal may never reach it without motivation.…
