Moving on, Holly also states that climate change drastically increases sea levels(Facts:Effects). Based off the various data, she estimates that the overheating will definitely cause large scale glacier melts, thus increasing the sea levels by at least 1-4 feet by the year 2100, and has already increased by 8 feet since 1880(Facts:Effects). What can be inferred from this information is that as the sea levels increase, more land will be submerged into the oceans and seas, thus reducing the total amount of land available for land organisms to survive in, such as but not limited to the Arctic and antarctic regions.. This will eventually create a competition among other species by which the organisms best adapted survive, driving other species to extinction. Since the human population is going through an rea of exponential growth, this will lead to more people and less space to live in, which will increase the being to being competition and lead to a global chaos.…
That means our seas are rising and will continue to rise. Dimick’s article states that “Seas are rising because ice sheets in Greenland and parts of Antarctica, and glaciers in Alaska and elsewhere, are melting as global temperatures rise. Meltwater flows from continents into the oceans, just like water flowing into a bathtub.” (Dimick,2015). If the water continues to rise eventually there will be massive flooding.…
Tide gauge readings, core samples, and satellite measurements tell us that over the past 100 years, the global sea level has risen about 4 to 8 inches. The yearly rate over the past couple decades is twice than the average speed of the past 8- years. Burning fossil fuels and other environmentally harming activities over the past century has caused temperatures to rise. During the summer, glaciers melt significantly less than previous years and during winter, less snow falls, causing sea levels to rise. Mountain glaciers form in high mountain areas.…
Since the late 1800s, the average global temperature has risen by more than 1.5°F, and there are places that have seen increases of twice this amount. This warming is responsible for numerous changes beyond the thermometer. First, not only is the air temperature rising, but ocean temperatures are as well, and this is exacerbating the melting of glaciers and sea ice. This is shifting sea levels, something also affected by changes in precipitation patterns. The strength and timing of extreme weather events are also being altered.…
As a result of climate change, the water levels and temperature will rise due to the melting of glaciers. These seemly trivial problems have been passed off as ordinary by many stating that this has naturally been occurring for a very long period of time, but yet again they’re wrong. By 2100 it is predicted that the sea levels will have risen 1-4 feel (Shaftel). This could possibly eliminate major parts of the coastline, and since around 39% of the American population lives near a coastline this could cause a major upset (What). Another effect climate change would have on the ocean would be its acidity.…
In his article published on June 26, 2017 on Washington Post, Chris Mooney states that “Sea level isn’t just happening, it’s getting faster.” From Sang’s point of view, he supports Mooney. According to Nature Climate Change research, that was a 2.2 millimeter per year rise in 1993 and was a 3.3 millimeter rise in 2014. We might see 1.1-millimeter rise is a very small number but it could change our whole habitat. Mooney also point out that the principal reason of the sea level rise was the melting of the Greenland ice sheet, which went from contributing under 5 percent of all sea level rise in 1993 to contributing over 25 percent in 2014.…
Many people do not realize how much the sea level rising can affect the community we live in. Living in Virginia we have had a numerous number of hurricanes. The most recent one I remember was Hurricane Sandy which happened October 26th, 2012. That year I remember having to evacuate my house because we lived so close to the oceanfront. When it was all over the streets of my neighborhood were flooded, our windows broke, and even some houses had major water damages.…
How and Why California coast (Pacific Coast) is Eroding faster than it should and the effect of it. I chose the California Coast or the Pacific Coast as it is one of the most popular coasts in the world. California has always been in the news for various natural disasters like forest fires, earthquakes and now Coastal erosion. California is also the World’s IT capital where all the famous companies like Google, Facebook, Apple etc are located. Many Indians migrate to california for jobs.…
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that sea levels will raise between 0.18 and 0.59 meters (0.59 to 1.9 feet) by 2099 as warming sea water expands and mountain and polar glaciers melt. TRANSITION: After talking about some problems of global warming mentioned above, I will discuss about some main factors causes global…
Global warming and the world General Purpose: To inform Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of global warming and its impact on our planet Central Idea: The growing concern of climate change and the rising sea level due to globe warming has been a big discussion in many parts of the world Introduction I. Attention-getter: How’s the weather outside? Many of us many not this but the earth is growing hotter as the years goes by.…
Ulrich Beck is a German sociologist and professor (until 2009) at Ludwig-Maximilian 's University in Munich Germany. Now Beck teaches at Munich University and the London School of Economics. He was born in Stolp, Germany in 1944. At Munich University where Beck studied many different majors he eventually attained a Dr. of Philosophy and then worked at the university as a sociologist. He was elected to the Convention and Executive Board of the German Society for Sociology, and he received many international awards and honors, and his works are being translated into about 35 different languages.…
Global warming has been a widely talked about subject for many years. Although it has become such a controversial topic, it is indisputable that there has been a change in the climate in recent history and continues to do so. Over the past one hundred and thirty- five years that data has been collected, copious amounts of climatologists have piloted research and investigations that proves global warming is an ongoing threat to Earth as a result of humans negligence. Furthermore, there is a mounting body of evidence to prove that the cause behind global warming is man-made. Despite the growing evidence, a number of scientists still believe the current changes in the climate a part of a natural global cycle.…
Temperatures rise as the result of greenhouse gases, namely carbon dioxide and water vapor, being released into the atmosphere in large quantities; after release into the atmosphere, these gases trap heat that is reflected off the surface of the earth. This reflective strength develops as more and more greenhouse gases are released. Because human activities are leading causes of carbon dioxide release, the concentration of the gas has been increasing over time. In 1950, carbon dioxide, for the first time in history, composed three hundred parts per million of the atmosphere, skyrocketing to just under four hundred by 2014 (“Climate Change” 1). World population experienced similar a similar trend.…
“Presently, 10 percent of land area on Earth is covered with glacial ice, including glaciers, ice caps, and the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica.” (nsidc.org). But, that is changing fast in the modern world. As the temperature of Erath has gone up in the last century.…
Climate change is a global-scale atmospheric externality. It is an issue that must be understood and addressed globally. Environmental trends based on scientific and observed studies have shown an increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, an increase of the Earth’s surface and ocean temperature causing a decline in sea ice, and more prevalent extreme weather patterns- all due to human influence. However, trying to understand each of these trends separately will not fully explain the causes of climate change- in its entirety.…
