In the United States the second Monday of October is a “Holiday”. The holiday is Christopher Columbus Day, many schools are closed, offices, and government buildings. Some people agree and disagree about whether he deserves to be honored or not. He has done many good things for the world like finding the Americas ,and he was brave for sailing the seas to find the “New World”. The author of the article “Columbus Doesn’t Deserve a Holiday” thinks otherwise. He thinks he’s a demon and shouldn’t be honored at all. What are the similarities about these two articles? In the article “Sail On” it states, “ Christopher Columbus was sure he could reach the Indies- Japan and China- by sailing west across the Atlantic Ocean.” This shows his mission was to find the Indies and sailing to Japan and China. In the article “ Columbus Doesn’t Deserve a Holiday” it says that he was sailing to find the “New World”.
