Cleft lip and palate and cleft lip are developmental anomalies that occur at different stages of development, with different epidemiologic and genetic features. (1,2,3)
Generally, left lip is less severe than cleft lip and palate, and it can occur as complete cleft lip, which involves the entire vertical height of the lip and often associated with alveolar cleft, or it could be incomplete (Simonart’s band) consisting of skin and some orbicularis muscle fibers. (4)
The incomplete cleft lip could be unilateral or bilateral, and it affects different structures of the face as illustrated in the table below:
