What do you think of when you think of holidays? Do you think of Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, or Valentines Day. Well, then I think of holidays, two come to my mind, Christmas and Thanksgiving. Christmas and Thanksgiving come right after one another. First Thanksgiving that occurs on everything fourth Thursday in November, while Christmas occurs every December 25th. They both are important to the citizens of America and both have a significant meaning, and both are celebrated with family. However, there are also some differences, like what is eaten, or the decorations, etc. If you don’t know the meaning of Thanksgiving you most likely are nowhere close to the United States. For example, Ham is served at both Christmas and Thanksgiving, however, turkey is Thanksgiving’s main meat. Also, there is mash potatoes, casseroles, rolls, sweet potatoes, etc. served at both of these meals. Yet, Thanksgiving has more of a traditional type of meals. Almost every single Thanksgiving have stuffing, turkey, cranberries, sweet potatoes, mash potatoes and gravy, and pumpkin pie, while Christmas meals may vary. When decorating for Thanksgiving fall colors, like orange, burgundy, brown, etc. are what you will most likely see. There might be fall leaves draped on counters, or a cartoon turkey that fills every plate and napkin. The napkins and plates will be a range of colors for each different person, but besides the colors and the turkey, there isn’t much decorating involved with Thanksgiving. Which is a polar opposite of Christmas, there is usually three colors, red, white, and green. Christmas is the most decorative holiday of the year. There are Christmas trees, reefs, lights ornaments, and stockings. A modern house will be extremely festive with all the decorations involved. There will be a gigantic Christmas tree with lights and ornaments filled top to bottom, it is always a sight, breathtaking even. There will be Christmas lights draped along the outside railing transforming the house into something magical. There will also be stockings lined across the fireplace, just waiting to be filled by Santa, just like underneath the tree. You will hear ringing of jolly Christmas music, making it the best time of the year. Unfortunately, since there is so much that goes into putting Christmas together, Thanksgiving sometimes gets overlooked, people will start celebrating Christmas way before Thanksgiving.
