There are many differences and similarities between Bridge to Terabithia’s movie and its novel. First of all, though both had their distinctions, there were many things in the novel and the book that remained the same. For example, Leslie used the same topic, scuba-diving, for her writing assignment with Mrs. Meyers, and Jess dumped his paint set given to him by Leslie into the gully after she died. Other scenes in the two versions of Bridge to Terabithia that stayed the same were Mrs. Aarons served pancakes the morning after Leslie’s death, Janice Avery stole May Belle’s Twinkies, and Jess and Leslie used an enchanted rope to first enter the magical world of Terabithia. Though some things remained the same, many things that were mentioned in the movie were not included in the book. For example, in the movie, May Belle watched the race, Jess’s parents were compliant with Jess’s art skills, and May Belle was crowned princess of Terabithia. For instance, in the novel, Jess made a funeral wreath for Leslie after she died, and he gave Leslie P.T. for Christmas. In the movie, Jess was shown making a little boat with Leslie’s memories and floating it down the gully in Leslie’s honor, as well as giving Leslie P.T. as a troll hunter. Also, in the novel, Jess and Leslie’s fortress in Terabithia was located on the ground, and Leslie gave May Belle paper dolls to get her to go away whereas in the film Jess and Leslie’s castle was a tree house, and Leslie gave May Belle actual Barbie dolls. Last of all, in the book, Jess slapped May Belle for asking about Leslie’s dead body, but in the movie Jess pushed her really hard. In conclusion, there are many differences and similarities between Bridge to Terabithia’s movie and its novel, but nonetheless the story was one that I enjoyed both reading and
