The two worlds the class were given depict entirely different stories. The only thing that does not vary is the names. The class was given the task to pick apart the two similar but completely different stories describing the tale of Beowulf. This tale was originally simplistic so it was revised. The tale of Beowulf was written near 900 C.E. and was to be a heroic tale in which it was told many times only enhancing the positives of the character. Hollywood thought the story did not have a definitive arc and compelling whilst complex characters, so they changed almost every aspect of the story almost ridding the story entirely to make it better. Beowulf made a fine ruler in both stories being king as he should. The stories diverged how he became …show more content…

The story rewritten by movie creators in Hollywood, Beowulf was a cheater and liar in what he had accomplished. In the movie as he went to help Hrothgar he saw his wife and lusted for her and had lusted for the mermaid as the reason for why he lost the race. He later as king had cheated on his wife the queen with multiple women and later was found to have a kid with Grendel's mom. Beowulf in the epic was trustworthy and helped all his people equally when he asked for help and was refuted, he did not grief, but only one came to help Wiglaf, he was there for dragons death and king's death till the end. As the death of Beowulf had occurred Wiglaf given the role as new king demanded that Beowulf be burried in the dragons hoard. In the epic, Beowulf was the most honorable man, within the movie he lusted for anything with beauty. Beowulf’s final moments in life within the movie was finding out he had a son and that he had left him for many years then remembering that he had killed him as he soon perished with his son to the bottom of the ocean with Grendel's mom. His attitude allowed his people's trust as did his heroic actions were never truly …show more content…
Later it was heavily revised to be made into a movie giving all the characters the scenes and many other things more depth in comparison to the old tale. As the class had read through we understood the many points that could be differed between the two stories. Through his effort Beowulf achieved greatness and became a great king, and what could've happened or what was distorted through the multiple tellings will most likely be lost. The main similarities between these three battles is the end result for Beowulf, the people’s need for a heroine, and the monsters themselves. The main differences of the fights are how Beowulf prepared for battle and what he used to fight the monsters, the setting of the battle, Beowulf’s condition during the battle and its result, and why he decided to kill the monster. Though each battle is significantly different and signifies a different part of the book, each battle has strikingly similar components.…

The film implies that Beowulf takes interest in the queen, while in the text there is no evidence of any romantic interest among them. This line from the film shows Beowulf’s interest, “Me It's not me he wants, my queen” (Memorable Quotes for Beowulf (2007))? The film states that Beowulf not only had an affair with Grendel’s Mother but also had a child with her. In the movie Beowulf marries the queen after Hrothgar’s death and eventually cheats on her similar to how Hrothgar did.…

    Beowulf Compared To Today

Beowulf is undoubtedly one of the most lionhearted and noble heroes in written literature, who conquers the most daring of all beasts with strength and bravery that could only be matched by few, both in literature and real life. Beowulf mimics traits similar to some of the greatest Greek heroes such as Achilles and Hercules, but when comparing the hero of today to the hero Beowulf was, the hero today falls quite short of the bar that Beowulf set back in the days of his heroic reign. If Beowulf had been placed into a different era such as the Greek literature era or found himself in the midst of the modern american society, his fate and heroics just might have shown out a little differently. Beowulf has many similarities to heroes of the…
