Beowulf Comparison

The two worlds the class were given depict entirely different stories. The only thing that does not vary is the names. The class was given the task to pick apart the two similar but completely different stories describing the tale of Beowulf. This tale was originally simplistic so it was revised. The tale of Beowulf was written near 900 C.E. and was to be a heroic tale in which it was told many times only enhancing the positives of the character. Hollywood thought the story did not have a definitive arc and compelling whilst complex characters, so they changed almost every aspect of the story almost ridding the story entirely to make it better. In the epic he was kind and never was unfair in fighting, he possessed all of the main qualities of a hero of the time and was greatly remembered through the epic. The story rewritten by movie creators in Hollywood, Beowulf was a cheater and liar in what he had accomplished. In the movie as he went to help Hrothgar he saw his wife and lusted for her and had lusted for the mermaid as the reason for why he lost the race. He later as king had cheated on his wife the queen with multiple women and later was found to have a kid with Grendel's mom. Beowulf in the epic was trustworthy and helped all his people equally when he asked for help and was refuted, he did not grief, but only one came to help Wiglaf, he was there for dragons death and king's death till the end. As the death of Beowulf had occurred Wiglaf given the role as new king demanded that Beowulf be burried in the dragons hoard. In the epic, Beowulf was the most honorable man, within the movie he lusted for anything with beauty. Beowulf’s final moments in life within the movie was finding out he had a son and that he had left him for many years then remembering that he had killed him as he soon perished with his son to the bottom of the ocean with Grendel's mom. Later it was heavily revised to be made into a movie giving all the characters the scenes and many other things more depth in comparison to the old tale. As the class had read through we understood the many points that could be differed between the two stories. Through his effort Beowulf achieved greatness and became a great king, and what could've happened or what was distorted through the multiple tellings will most likely be lost. Beowulf’s tale is still told today what might of changed through the people's perspective of the tale over the years that is what intrigues us all through human
