Have you ever wondered what being in a different school in a different state would be like? I have. Have you ever said to yourself “my school is awful”, and look around and see that your school is not that bad at all? I have, and The Baraka Boys made me appreciate the school I went to that much more. The way the students and teachers acted in the Baltimore schools is unlike anything I have ever seen. Kids are running around, teachers are acting like nothing is wrong and nobody seems to have a care in the world. I feel like my life is the most different from Romesh and Richard because they did not have a stable support system, they were not the best kids in school and they saw so much at home then I had ever seen on tv. …show more content…
I would like to compare them being pushed to doing your best kind of like how Pete Carroll pushed his football players to be the best they could be. If Pete Carroll did not push his football players to be the best they could be, then they would not have any motivation to do good like the boys from Baltimore did. “Each person holds so much power within themselves that needs to be let out. Sometimes they need just a little nudge, a little direction, a little support, a little coaching, and the greatest things can happen” (qtd. In Carroll). Devon’s grandmother had support from his grandmother all throughout his life, and I believe that is why he had such a succeeding life after they came back from Kenya. Unlike Devon and myself, Richards mother told him that once he turned eighteen, he had to leave. My parents have always told me that I could live with them for as long as I needed. My parents have always pushed me to do my best in school, sports, and anything else I decided to get involved in. Whenever I was younger, I was in and out of hospitals and that made it hard to stay on track in school. It made me feel different than all the other kids because while they could go to dances, I could not because my physical activity was limited. However, the older I got, the more I felt like the other kids because my doctor came up with ways for me to be active and still be safe about it,
