Comparing and Contrasting Approaches to Learning Learning takes place differently in every classroom throughout the school day. I will be discussing the three leading theories on teaching. The three leading theories are behaviorism, constructivism and cognitivism which all have strong and weak areas. I will also be pairing examples of instruction with the different theories. Cognitivism is one of the theories that are mainly used in the classroom. This theory uses the cognitive power of the brain to explore high level thinking. The educator will use thinking, problem solving and memory recall to deepen the cognitive power of the brain. By examining the learning objective of “Understand and exhibit personal responsibility characteristics in workplace situations (workplace safety, ethical behavior, sexual harassment)” it can be related to the cognitivism theory. By looking at the key word “understand”, it can be identified that the students must use a deeper level of thinking and problem solving to “understand their responsibilities”. More and more students are carrying cell phones arounds, schools can use the technology already existing in the student’s hands to help advance their educational needs. Using cell phones in the classroom to help with research, take quizzes and other things. Students also have access to computer labs in the schools. There are computers in classrooms, libraries and labs. The computers are there for students to use. Students in our school system whom are in the nonstandard educational program have been given the opportunity to use IPads throughout the school day. IPads will allow these students to have information at their fingertips. By giving the students in the auto mechanic program access to IPads, the students will be able to pull up step by directions right at the car. This will allow the students to work faster and get more out of the projects, rather than having to run back and forth from a computer. Bringing IPads into the classrooms of the nonstandard programs would allow internet access directly to the
