Socrates’s point in this quote is to say that the cave dwellers view the escaped prisoner with such hostility that it would be much better to stay in the isolated dark cave then to venture to the outside world. Socrates continues by pointing out the allegories in his story by saying, “The cave is the world of sight, the light of the fire is the sun, and you will not misunderstand me if you interpret the journey upwards to be the ascent of the soul into the world of Forms” (P.85). What Socrates is pointing out here is that the world of the cave is world of sight that we all live in and the light of the fire is the sun, but if you can escape the cave then you would ascent into a world of higher being. The most authentic, valid, and useable record that has been kept protected and unspoiled of Socrates’ defense of himself is the Apology. While the words penned in the Apology were not documented at the time they were spoken, Plato was present at the trial and; therefore, the record documented in the Apology was the words and confrontations of Socrates as Plato remembered them. However, one should put in mind that Plato was an admirer of Socrates and believed he is the true hero; in addition, he was still a student. Therefore, he may have been biased, in favor of Socrates, in the Apology. The Apology’s main focus is on Socrates’ responses to the different charges which are leveled against him by different accusers.…

The Truman show directed by Peter Weir and the dialogue “Allegory the Cave” written by Plato, both represent what an individual sees as the only truth when they are controlled by the man made truth. In the Truman show, it's a show where Truman Burbank has lived his whole life being broadcasted 24 hours, living in a false world without knowing the truth . Similar to the “Allegory the Cave” in where Plato explains 2 individuals are chained to a wall since childhood and all they see is shadows by the fire, the prisoners only see the shadows as the only truth they know. Both, The Truman Show and “Allegory the Cave” demonstrate how both individuals experience the false reality and experience the same journey.…
