Agatha Christie’s book, And Then There Were None, is a masterpiece, selling over 100 million copies. Her classic has been crafted into 25 TV shows/movies, a play, a videogame, many parodies, and it has been referenced thousands of times. This book is a locked-door mystery where ten criminals are invited to an island by a mysterious U.N. Owen; they are picked off one by one, following a creepy nursery rhyme. The movie of And Then There Were None was a popular film by René Clair, even though it had significant differences from the book. Overall, René Clair’s differences proved effective in the motion picture.

One of the effective changes is that the murderer, Judge Justice Wargrave, had a scheme that didn’t end perfectly. In the book, his plot was flawless. Everyone showed up, no one saw him murder a victim, Vera murdered Phillip Lombard, she hanged herself, and no one’s death went wrong. However, in the movie, Phillip (actually Charles Morley) wasn’t shot by Vera; Vera misses him purposely and Charles faked his death. Then, the Judge drugged himself and set up the rope for Vera to hang herself. She refused to hang herself, and then the Judge soon died. Charles Morley and Vera Claythorne left the island with the boat driver, Fred Narracott. This change proved effective in the movie because the outcome of the judge’s plot was more realistic. The prince was a much less likeable character, so when he died first, audiences weren’t as sad. Prince Nikita was a Russian prince born into money, like Tony Marston. Though they’re different, they committed the same crime. They both drove over two little kids, and they had their licences taken away for being reckless

I liked the play because it gave a good description on the murder of Amyas Crale. The play described how Caroline Crale had murdered her husband by the coniine that was put in his beer. The coniine is extracted from the hemlock plant. The hemlock is the same plant that killed Socrates. When Amyas Crale drank the poison, he started to have cramps and pains as he slowly died.…

The good guy act from Dr. Armstrong leads to his character seeming incredibly suspicious. In the novel by Agatha Christie, Justice Wargrave is seen as the murderer for many. However, through investigating motive and opportunity, Dr. Armstrong can be proven guilty of murdering seven out of the nine other people who went to Soldier Island. Dr. Armstrong’s motives about the other guests on the island give a clear indication that he is the murderer.…

Do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan Thomas is about the subject of death, but the theme is focused on fighting against death and gives the reader a sense of control over death by never giving up. The poem tells us not to give up easily when it says “Rage, rage against the dying the light” (Thomas, 659), which indicates a fight. The tone is angry and it uses assonance by repeating O’s sounds over and over, showing repetition similar to someone punching someone repeatedly giving the reader a feeling of control over death. The use of assonance by using words like do, not, go, into, and good create a repetitive effect of doing something over and over and never giving up. There is a one simile to point out in the fifth stanza where it…

In Gothic Literature the author usually is not very clear as to what events are happening which tends to create a state of confusion. This can be seen in Agatha Christie’s “ And Then There Were None” and also in Eudora Welty’s “Powerhouse.” In “And Then There Were None” Christie creates a state of confusion by not telling us who the host and hostess are nor why these guests inparticular are being invited to stay at Soldier Island. Correspondingly in “Powerhouse” Welty creates a state of confusion by not being clear about whether or not Mrs.Powerhouse is dead or what happened to her.…
