From the ancient stories of the past, to new architecture being found, to the information historians find every day; ancient history continues to be the building blocks for the modern world. Ancient history shows evidence of how civilizations formed, how communities were built based from geography, and how languages developed when building a functional society.
During the different ages of ancient times, some ancient civilizations had similarities while still possessing many different characteristics. Although in different geographical areas, Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt held both different and similar qualities when it came to religion, water as a natural resource, and forms of architecture.

Both civilizations use their sources of water to their advantage. In Mesopotamia, the water is hostile and unpredictable with flooding, while the Nile River in Egypt maintains the same flooding annually. However, both Mesopotamia and Egypt use the water for irrigation in agriculture, and depend on it for their very lives. Architecture in Mesopotamia was simple in terms of living, and extremely crowded. However, cities of Mesopotamia began to grow rapidly, and created temples to serve their gods in. The Egyptians are known for their great advancements in architecture when building the pyramids. Both the ziggurats and the pyramids reflected new forms of architecture, and were physical manifestations of the religions they were following. Although both civilizations worshipped different gods, both had specific gods based off of occurrences in nature. Both served their polytheistic gods to protect them from the harsh environments they were settled in. Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt had many differences when it came to the culture, people, and religion.
