Not worrying about what the latest fashion is and getting dressed in your “plain” clothing could be a blessing in disguise. Getting up each morning around 5 am and starting your day by milking the cows and collecting chicken eggs so that you can make breakfast is fascinating to me. Life is lived at a slower pace, with no fast cars, traffic, or rush to get anywhere. Instead you can travel by horse and buggy and have many of your needs met on your own farmland. The Amish use gas powered agricultural equipment when they work but do not use anything electrical. Even though they do not use electricity, they do have running water and bathrooms in their homes. Most Amish will not fly on an airplane, some will ride in the back of a car but, their way of transportation is by horse and buggy or walking, and they will also use a horse to do farm chores. The Mennonites on the other hand do have electricity in their homes, drive cars (though they are not flashy but very plain), have telephones, televisions, etc. Then again, they only use these things with careful and proper control and make sure that it is with pure spiritual living. A quote that explains the Amish way of life very well
