Amir’s life was changed forever when he rescued Sohrab. He realized that his claustrophobic fear of debt that was haunting was soon realized when “I ran” (Hosseni 371) When Hassan flies a kite, it shows that he is free spirited. Compared to Amir, Hassan does not let the troubles of life get to him as much. The Kite Runner has a simple context that infiltrates ones heart. In a story like this the emotions of the character were conveyed piece by piece and somewhat rather vaguely. In the Kite Runner, Because Amir is free physically, - with a wife, job, and late caring father-, Hassan is free emotionally –loyal, assertive, and caring-.
For example, Baba, the author had scripted him to be aloof when as a father we all know that he carries for his family and friends. His assertive father-like attitude does not set him apart from other parents who try to the same thing for their children so that they may fall on the right path an do not stray. His characteristics mainly consist of being a “coward” or “not a man” as said a few times by his father and Assef. Amir later shows that he is a brave because goes back to Afghanistan to save Sohrab and pay back his debt with an even greater purpose since he found out that they are brothers. Once Sohrab is safe Amir has a great weight is lifted from his shoulders. He is finally able to be free emotionally. Hassan, on the other hand was always free of pain that took him right to heart. He was able to get up right after he fell down anytime and manage his own emotional weight. However he wasn’t physically free of suffering because of the rape he had endured and the notion of living in a country that is constantly at
