Both in the novel and the movie, the $10,000 check plays an important role and it is split with $3500 going toward the house and $6500 going to Walter even though he was supposed to put $3000 in the bank for Beneatha’s education. Another important similarity is that in both the book and the movie, Bobo showed up and told Walter that their money was gone and Willy had skipped town.
