Based on numerous holes in their stories, it seems that Adnan and Jay are both lying in their accounts of January thirteenth. The cell phone record wound up to be the best evidence provided. The cell phone record corroborated Jay’s story partially, but altogether revealed flaws in Adnan and Jay’s claims of what happened on January thirteenth. Adnan had the most sensible motive to kill Hae, and also the most witnesses testify against him. Adnan’s story was incredibly vague and his no memory of that day is convenient. What becomes questionable is when someone asks about an event occurring on the day of Hae’s disappearance that indicate Adnan’s guilt, he becomes very articulate in his response even though his memory is supposedly limited of that day. Jay’s story changed at least three times, plus a good amount of his claim is flawed because of what appears like an impossible timeline at parts of his story. Not only that, a fair amount of the call log did not support what Jay testified. During this time, Jay is involved in criminal activity including selling marijuana. Adnan had extreme control issues, so losing Hae pushed him past the edge. Adnan was a seventeen-year old male who grew and was surrounded by crime. With his strong emotions towards Hae and crime is made to seem like a neutral way of life, going through with his plan made sense, (Claridge, 2015). Strict parenting also tends to result in rebellious children. Jay was paranoid and resentful of all law enforcement, especially due to past encounters with the police.
