Compare And Contrast Adam And Eve From The Garden Of Eden

Improved Essays
Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden can compare with the story of Equality 7-2521. Equality gets rejected because he enjoyed being an individual (unique) and Adam and Eve both disobey God and therefore became individualists. In both stories they both sinned. These sins have both similarities and differences.

In both stories sins were made. In Adam and Eve, they sin because they eat fruit from a forbidden tree. They then get called evil for doing so. They also have sex in the garden. In Equality’s story he is different from everyone and therefore he is viewed as a sinner. He also comes up with the word “I”(Rand 94). He vows to protect that word and then launches a new man of race and ego(Rand 105). This was a sin because everyone was supposed to be the same. No one was supposed to be different, or violate the laws, or be an individual. But, Equality was a curious man and wanted to stand out (Rand 18,19). These are the sins that were made in both stories, Adam and Eve and Equality’s.

But there are similarities between those sins. In the story of Adam and Eve, God forbids them to eat fruit from a tree. They did not listen and ate the fruit anyway and therefore gained personal knowledge of evil. They also had sex in the garden. This can relate to Equality in so many ways. Equality drank water from the hands of the Golden One(Rand 57) and this makes him think of the Palace of Mating. This is a place where specific men and women are sent each year to have sex with an assigned person(Rand 41). Also, Equality can relate to the story of Adam and Eve because just like the way God forbids them to eat from the tree, everyone expects Equality to be the same as everyone else, and do as they say and to not be an individual. Plus, Equality is not allowed to sin, or he is viewed as different or bad(Rand 17-19). Adam and Eve sinned and for that they were viewed as evil. This is how Adam and Eve’s sins were similar to Equality’s

It is difficult to Imagine one’s life being completely and utterly decided by how intellectually and physically better or worse they are. People may think that the modern world is molded by this concept; however, they are wrong. It is difficult to imagine a community being equal both physical and mental. After reading Anthem by Ayn Rand, and “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnequt Jr. about the future world and the idea of Utopian societies one may see the similarities and ideas of a lot of Utopian societies. Both display acts of equalism, the act of committing transgressions, and superiors in society.…

In the novel Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, the protagonist of the story struggles with the ethicality of his actions and his choice to write about the events that happened to him throughout his life. Due to the society Equality grew up in, he was under the belief that writing his personal opinions was a grave transgression that he would be punished for. This was the reason the novel began with the phrase “It is a sin to write this,”(2). However, by the end of the novel, Equality’s belief grew and changed with his perception of the world. No longer was he under the belief that writing his individual thoughts was a transgression; he understood that he was allowed to be an individual and write whatever he pleased.…

With new clarity on what his “sins” really were, acts of individuality, he saw how truly oppressed each of his brothers were. The identities of the oppressors being each…

John Steinbeck’s East of Eden draws comparisons to the Bible throughout the whole book. The allusions to the Bible help to reinforce the fight between good and evil that is at the base of East of Eden. John Steinbeck specifically uses the choices Cal makes in contrast to Cain in the Bible to demonstrate that human kind is born evil and the choices, which are based out of a lack of self-satisfaction, people make are what make them good or evil. Cal from East of Eden is written to mirror the Biblical character Cain. There are some distinct similarities in the characteristics of both characters.…

It can be inferred from both the texts that Eve, despite being raised from Adam, had a desire to be equal to the creator. Since the beginning of her creation, Eve understands that she is somewhat inferior to Adam. She realizes that she was made from his flesh and that he was created first. This is not fair to Eve, as she believes that she ought to have the same authority as Adam. Provided that they are so called "partners" by God himself, they should collaborate equally on decisions.…
