9/11 vs Pearl Harbor What comes to mind when you here about 9/11 or the bombings at Pearl Harbor? All the innocent people being killed? The war it started? Or just how we came together as a nation to take down a common enemy? Two important events in U.S. history are the hijackings on September 11, 2001 and the bombings at Pearl Harbor. The attack on September 11, 2001 was 4 planes were hijacked and two were crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania. December 7, 1941 was when the Empire of Japan Sent a surprise bombing attack at an American Naval Base in Hawaii. These two attacks will always be remembered in U.S. history. They were all part of the terrorist group Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda is filled with Islamic extremists. Islamics are also known as Muslims. They were islamic. They were part of the religion Islam which is the second largest of the three monotheistic religions. Muslims believed that Quran is God’s word as revealed through the prophet Muhammad. There are 5 pillars of islam: Shahada, Salat, Zakat,Sawm, and hajj. Shahada means to have faith. Salat means to to pray. Zakat means to is charity. Sawm means fasting. Hajj means Pilgrimage to Mecca. They believed God is everything and incomparable and the purpose of life is to worship God. These people were trained and they were willing to die for there religion. They believed that taking other people's lives and killing themselves was a way to eternal life. That doing something horrific like killing innocent people would make their God proud and in return get eternal …show more content…
They were college educated. Some of the men took flight classes to train for the hijackings. For example Mohamed Atta one of the ringleaders in the 9/11 hijackings was the hijacker pilot of flight 11. He attended the Accelerated Pilot Program. Almost all of the hijackers were well educated. The first hijackers to arrive in the United States was Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al- Mihdhar who came in 2000 and settled in the San Diego area. Then the three hijacker pilots Mohamed Atta, Ziad Jarrah, and Marwan al-Shehhi who came in the mid 2000to take flight classes in south Florida. The rest of the hijackers came in early and mid 2001. They took classes to learn how to fly a plane
