Personal Narrative: How Fort Wayne Changed My Life

Superior Essays
Sometimes I’m glad things are the way they are. Everything would’ve been so different. Maybe even myself. I wonder what life would’ve been like if I stayed...and when I say stayed I mean stayed at my hometown Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2013, I went through a big experience. My family and I have moved to Columbia City, Indiana. This decision was based around my mother because she has met the love of her life. When I found out that we were moving I was devastated. I was young and the thought of leaving all my friends, family, and the places I grew up around made it so hard on me. I was very emotional at the time and I was scared to start a new life in a place that was unfamiliar to me. This was the start to one of the biggest transitions in my life. …show more content…
The building and property alone was beyond amazing to me because I was so used to seeing schools being small, run down looking, and hardly any land around it. When I walked in I was mesmerized by the little things. Such as the architecture, rooms, hallways, and the gyms. I couldn’t believe I was in a middle school. This school was the best school I have ever walked in. Indian Springs kicks all of the Fort Wayne middle school’s out of the water. Nothing can compare to how good this school truly looked to me. I began to feel excitement and I couldn’t wait to start a new chapter! Finally that day arrived and I was a little nervous. As I looked around at the students, everyone was basically the same. There wasn’t much diversity and everyone’s style was similar. I felt like I sticked out more than everyone else because I had my own style and it was obvious I was new. Everyone kept looking at me and I could hear them whispering to their friends, “Is that the new girl?” As the day went on and more observations were being discovered, I could easily tell who all the friend groups were. Everyone was being super friendly to me and I didn’t think so many people would talk to me first thing. Some people were actually scared to talk to me because apparently I looked intimidating but in reality I’m pretty chill. All I can say is, the students here are a lot more respectful and friendly than the ones back

For the next five years I lived in White Plains, New York and living there was unique, in that owning a vehicle was obsolete. I was able to walk to the store, the park and to school. The ability to walk everywhere gave my the opportunity to build relationships with my whole community and to many, it may come as surprise that even with living in a big city most of the people living within it knew each other. Even though I come from a culturally distinct country and lived in the city that never sleeps I can only call Baltimore, Maryland my home. Living in Baltimore, has had a big impact on my life because it has shaped my identity and personality.…

I’ve lived my entire life in Indiana, as have my parents. My mom and dad were raised close to Monroe and went to Adams Central, where they met and fell in love. They ended up moving north to Fort Wayne where they had my sister and I. We began our schooling in FWCS, but we moved farther north to the tiny town of Huntertown later, which led to my sister and I switching to NACS for my high schooling and her middle and high schooling. Due to all of the events that have happened here in Indiana throughout my life, and due to most of my immediate family living in the area, I have a desire to continue living and working here.…
