The story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell is a classic example. Whenever a piece of literature, such as a short story or a novel, are adapted into a film or another medium, changes are common. These changes can be minor and have no effect on the story, such as renaming a character; however, these changes can also be major and alter the storyline in such a way that the main events are modified, such as adding or deleting characters, or adjusting the plot events. To illustrate, in both versions of the story, Zaroff is killed by Rainsford; however, in the book, Zaroff is killed due to premeditated murder, rather than self-defense, as in the movie. Similarly, whenever Rainsford comes back after Zaroff believes he has killed him, the reasons differ depending on which version you read or watch. In the written style, when Rainsford goes back to the chateau, his purpose is to get revenge and kill Zaroff. In the film, Rainsford returns to rescue Eve, which leads to a fight with Zaroff, where he is injured due to self-defense. He later falls out of a window on one of the chateau’s higher floors. While this is true, it is not exactly known how Zaroff is killed in the book, all that is known is that Rainsford kills him. Also, during the end of the film when Zaroff falls out of the window, Rainsford can be seen leaving the island with Eve on a boat.
