Firstly, even though World War II ended in 1945, life was tough between most nations even after the war. With the Soviets taken over Germany and coming into power conflict happened between the Americans and the Soviets. Now the thing was that Americans were fearful of the communist Soviets very much so that they started to become paranoid about communist. On ushistory.org it stated that “President Truman had ordered background checks of every civilian in service to the government. When Alger Hiss, a high-ranking State Department official was convicted on espionage charges, fear of communists intensified.” (ushistory.org). Now even in the United States people were still divided over race, and other differences during the 1950s. It was not until 1964 the Civil Rights act that equal rights were guaranteed for all Americans. (Civil Rights Act, 1964). I know personally some people that are African American that were in high school in the 1950s when they started integrating. Even when they were allowed to go to the same school as the others problems and fights happened quite a bit. One of them almost ran into a close called it death even. So even when people were considered equal it still took some decades to really settle
