Christianity and Islam are the most dominant religions that have spread all over the world. These religions have differences and similarities in their doctrines, especially about the nature of Jesus. Both religions agree on the humanity of Jesus, however, it is very hard for Muslims to accept the Divinity of Jesus Christ. This essay compares and contrasts what their views about Jesus’s nature, His birth, divine sonship and divinity of Jesus.
In both religions, Jesus was born in miraculous ways because His mother Mary was a virgin, when she gave birth to Jesus. Schirrmacher states that, in the Koran the Virgin Mary was approached by an angel and when he told her, she is going to have a son, she was so frightened because she was a virgin (72), a similar story is found in the Bible in Luke 1:26-38. Christians believe Jesus was conceived by the work of the Holy Spirit and He is God from His birth but the Muslims say He was created.

Most people in New Zealand would call themselves Christian up until the 2011 Census where now majority would not affiliate with any religion. There are many possible factors that have led to this decline, such as perceptions of the church, individual spirituality and lack of hope in the world and in Christianity. When talking to various non-Christians, a common view was that Churches are exclusive and judgemental.
