Part A
Evaluation of Company Q’s attitude of social responsibility using the Economic, Legal, Ethic, and Philanthropic levels. (Ferrell, O.C., Fraedrich, J., Ferrell, L. 2009)

Economic
Company Q’s economic attitude is a mix of positive and negative. Company Q’s purpose is to make a profit, but it is also the company’s job to create employment opportunities and provide food and supplies in the community. They have added high margin items like health-conscience and organic products that are profitable for the company and providing products that customers request is definitely positive. However, when Company Q closed stores in higher-crime-rate areas because they were losing money, they abandoned current customers and possibly created unemployment showing a negative attitude towards social responsibility.

Legal

It doesn’t seem like they have broken any laws or violated any regulations.

Ethics
Company Q’s current attitude to business ethics is negative. They should have stayed in the higher-crime-rate areas where they were probably needed the most. They also show a lack of respect and trust in their employees by using the excuse that they are worried about employees stealing for not donating day-old products to a local food bank.

Philanthropic
Company Q’s attitude on the philanthropic level is pretty poor. They closed stores and created a food desert in parts of their community that needed their presence more than other areas. They do not donate day-old products to a local food bank, putting the fear of lost revenue above the needs of the community they serve. Company Q does not see the value and opportunity available in giving back to the people in their city.

Part B

Here are the three recommendations that Company Q could use to improve their attitude to social responsibility.
