Company By George Furth: Theatre Analysis

Company is a musical comedy that is based off a book written by George Furth that was produced in the 1970”s. The musical was originally named Threes. The whole plot revolves around the main character Robert (Bobby), he cannot fully commit himself to relationship, meaning he cannot get married and he is already 35. His five friends are all married couples that try to help him find a partner or tell him he is perfect how he is. This Broadway production was nominated for fourteen Tony Awards and it won six. This play was at The Eastern Florida State College auditorium. Professor Henry was the producer for Company at EFSC. The play was interesting but the plot was strange. In all honesty, I didn’t enjoy it that much. The plot was interesting and different but other than that, I found it rather boring. My attention was never grabbed in the play. The acting was great for many of the players, all of the lead roles were phenomenal. Every single one of them fit their role greatly. For the minor roles, I thought only one of the girlfriends of Robert fit well and that was the flight attendant. The other two just did not portray their role as deeply as they should have. Even as a minor role, they were still part of the plot, but there acting didn’t make it seem like they were that important. Everybody’s voice and tone was excellent. I feel the actors/actresses did excellent to try to make this play interesting. I appreciated the simplicity of the scenery, I feel that if the scenery was any more complex, it would have made the play confusing. It was an appropriate environment for this play. The costumes helped show the modern time period. All the characters dress appropriately for their role also. For example, the flight attendant dressed as they would to show that she would
