Comp 110 Reflection

Improved Essays
Entering into Comp 110, I had no clue what I was getting myself into. Over the past three years in high school, I have done fairly well in my Communication Art classes. I received good grades and had an understanding of the material being taught. Comp 110 was a completely different story, though. I knew it was going to be difficult because it was a college level class, but I didn't know how stressful it truly would be. I have written more essays in this class than all of my past classes throughout high school combined. The amount of work was definitely overwhelming, but this class has taught me so much when it comes to writing. Because of this class, I have learned the importance of standard English, I have learned that revision is a crucial tool when it comes to writing, and I have learned that to be able to receive the grade I want, I must set goals to achieve that. To begin with, Comp 110 has taught that the use of standard English is critical to effective writing. I believed I had a good understanding of the basic rules for standard English. My past teachers never addressed any problems with that aspect of my writing, so naturally I felt I had a good understanding of it. However, that changed when Mrs.Kelley had a meeting with me about my diagnostic essay. She informed me that my biggest problem with my writing was my use of commas. I was forgetting them or using them in …show more content…
I did not expect to learn as much as I did. It has taught me that standard English is important, revision is a beneficial tool to use, and setting goals will help me achieve the grade I want. Although this class was an enormous weight on my shoulders throughout the whole semester, I am elated I took this class. I have never learned as much as I did in Comp 110 then in any of my other Communication Art classes throughout my high school career. For Comp 210, I expect to use all of this useful information to excel in everything the class has to

After today’s class discussion, I was able to learn new and different ways to take data. It was interesting to see how similar and different recording data can be depending on the goal and disorder. For example, last semester I did not find it as hard to track data for my accent modification client. However, this semester I have changed the way I keep track of data during sessions. My client is working on basic age appropriate sounds mainly because she exhibits a lot of phonological processes.…

During the first half of the semester for ENC 1102, I believe that my writing skills have improved from ENC 1101; some of which are getting to page length, correctly citing a source, and incorporating how a quote is related to my argument. I still have some errors within my writing that I have not quite figured out how to tackle. Some concepts that I have not gotten down to a tee must be coming up with a thesis statement, basic grammar errors, introducing quotations, and repetition. I have also learned how to distinguish the difference between a personal essay and an argumentative essay with first hand on the two types and how why my grade differed from essay one and two.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay.
