Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States, and is one of the most famous. His most well-known acts of leadership are saving America from the Great Depression, and helping the Allies win World War II. Roosevelt and Alexius Comnenus have a lot in common, starting from their early life. Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on the 30th of January, 1882, in New York. Similar to Alexius, he was born to be a leader. His parents were wealthy, and he was privately tutored and sent to Harvard for college (where he met Eleanor Roosevelt, his wife). His distant relative, Theodore Roosevelt (the 26th president of the USA), greatly inspired him to become a politician, though he became a democrat, whereas Theodore was a Republican. At this time, Roosevelt ran for president, and won the election by a huge margin. Unlike Alexius, who used military force to become the leader of the Byzantine Empire, Roosevelt was genuinely liked by his citizens. During his inaugural address to the nation, FDR said his famous quote, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” He made history with his “New Deal,” which had originally been an experiment that he made improvements to after observing the results. Roosevelt’s many measures, including the Agricultural Adjustment Act and the National Industry Recovery Act, raised income for farmers and created a minimum wage for workers.
