Community Synthesis Essay

When students come to Pre-K, they are at the early stage of beginning and expanding their world around them, beyond their home, neighborhood, and school. When exploring their world around them, one that incorporates people, places, and things that are outside their normal world, it becomes exciting. Children of this age will begin to see the importance of a community, and what a community does for society as well as how they can be a contributor no matter how small they think they are; it is their community, and social society. Students should be able to gain knowledge about themselves, family, friends, and familiar people and places within the community. Students will understand and recognize the importance of a community, how community members contribute, what they wear, use, and what types of building they may work in, including how community helpers benefits all people of a community. They will learn how different parts functions as a community, or as an individual operation within the community. Students will learn about different community helpers, how they are a part of the community, the tools they use to aid others within the community, and learn about what they may want to be in the future, and understanding what it takes …show more content…
Social is addressed throughout the entire unit with cooperative learning. Verbal is used in the asking and answering of the text, repeating it, vocabulary activity, white board, the field trip, and the samples of the center activities. Logical learning is used in the memory game, bingo, building sculptures, field trip, and building the community collage bulletin board. Kinesthetic intelligence is used with role-play, musical movement, multiple center activities, field trip, and bulletin board. Many of these overlap throughout the unit, however, note that repetition is highly recommended for Pre-K
