The program of Community Service Scholars usually represents a dynamic network of student leaders that reflect a wide spectrum of interest, talent and skill. Community Service Scholarships are services designed to improve the quality of life for community residents or solving problems related to their needs. This type of scholarships are offered by religious groups or charitable foundations support Community service scholarships programs while others are sponsored by corporations and the federal government. Some programs offer straight scholarship awards for students with a solid history of volunteer work and community service while others may be scholarship for service contracts or work study programs that provide college funds in exchange for an agreed term of community service.

The Corporation for Community & National Service sponsors the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award-it rewards students with college funds up to $5,500 in exchange for a term of service in the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Money can be used to pay off loans, or pay tuition costs for the student.
The Federal Work-Study Program provides part-time jobs for students who are financially disadvantaged throughout their college career, allowing them to be able to earn money that will help reduce the costs of their post-secondary
