At His Service
My goal for the future: To help change the world. It may seem like a daunting task, but I believe I have plenty of experience that will help me achieve my objective. Volunteering is my one passion and my contribution to help the world. Through my church, school, and organizations, I have been involved in several community service opportunities since elementary school. I love helping others in need and the satisfaction of a job well done. I feel like my time is well spent after I see what was accomplished or even the smiles of those I had helped. The best volunteer opportunities are when I get to work with kids. Most of my volunteering involves leading, entertaining, or teaching elementary-school children. Some activities are leading Sunday School, visiting classes to read with kids, and babysitting during PTA meetings. My favorite volunteer opportunity is Light in the Park, the short-term outreach ministry of my church.

My church, Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship, partners with Lighthouse Church to hold a week-long day camp for the children of Allentown. Starting Monday, a group of adults and teens dressed in coordinated colorful t-shirts run programs for kids to join in Roosevelt Park. I have volunteered every summer since ninth grade and have never regretted it. In the mornings, I help with All-Sports and play various team games with kids from kindergarten all the way to sixth grade. Groups rotate through stations such as tag, soccer, relays and water sports. We enjoy a quick lunch and then in the afternoons we hold a VBS program. As a crew leader, I lead a group of kids to different stations. The time passes in a whirlwind of skits, songs, dancing, crafts, Bible stories, games, and memory verses. We pack up for the day and return the next day to do it all over

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I would like to serve as a Regional FFA Officer to give back to others and expand my reach to help others in need and to be a friend to those in need of one. We have in our motto “Living to Serve” may we serve our fellow man and fellow members to the best of our abilities. My greatest gift is the gift to teach and help others. This is a gift that is absolutely useless if not used to help others. I enjoy helping others, and I, like everyone else, and someone who helped me.…

Program 428 “Jayson Jay Cooley, hmm, what a name. So why do you think you should be considered to be one of the first to get this program?” “Well, to be honest, you probably have thousands of more interesting people that would look better getting the program. They would bring more interest and popularity to the program and that would get you more money. But, in all honesty, I am bored.…

The Americana World Community Center was an organization that I was involved in during High School. It is a nonprofit in Louisville, KY that helps refugees, immigrants, and the underserved populations. During my time at Americana I helped the kids with school work and played different games with them. I'm very passionate about this program because I love how much it helps out all the struggling kids and families. It gives the kids a safe place to learn and have fun, and it was amazing to see how excited some the kids got to see me.…

“The magic happens when you step outside your comfort zone.” This proverb sums up everything I went through when I recently attended the Air Force Academy’s Summer Seminar in July. While there, I was pushed well beyond my limits. We, the attendees, did strenuous physical training sessions at roughly a mile above sea level, woke up before the sun rose, attended sample classes, and studied tons of military knowledge while learning about the Air Force Academy and the admission process. It was truly a challenge being there, and I loved every minute of it!…

In 1985 director John Hughes released the movie “The Breakfast Club.” The movie is about five very different high school students who become friends over a day spent in detention. The movie ends with the students leaving the school, returning to their ordinary lives. The first time I watched this movie, my parents asked me if I thought the characters would say hi to each other on the next day of school. I optimistically replied yes.…

For every decision one makes they have a person or an event to accredit as to why they were influenced to make that decision. Previously, I watched shows like Greys Anatomy and envisioned myself saving one’s life as a doctor myself someday. Sometimes what we want in life though is not what we need. The class senior forum helped open my eyes to this realization through a job shadow within that career pathway. I found that working with needles just was not for me.…

A few months ago, I had a very candid conversation with my dad. He sat me down and we talked about my future, my plans for college and beyond and how he can help me achieve those goals. My plan for the time being was to get my generals done here at LSC and hopefully by then know what I want to do for a career so I can choose a college and a degree that suites me. After that my father expected a very familiar tale. The one where you get a job you love, a family you love more, to retire early and travel often.…

I have been volunteering at my local library ever since my high school career has begun. Over the summer, I motivate little kids to read: I convince them to comprehend the various stories read, and in return they are rewarded with various prizes. During the weekends, I assist children with the material they may be struggling with in school. Every now and then, a few kids would bring in their homework, while others brought in either textbooks or their notes.…
