When I was handing out the bags, I think they enjoyed getting the bag. On the other hand, when I was passing out the metals I would always try and put the metal around their neck so they felt really good about running the race. After I left, I felt like I accomplished something and I did. I also had one of my family members running the half marathon, and it was really cool getting to put the medal around their neck and say “Good Job! You did well. I know if I tried running it I wouldn’t have made it.” I got 6 hours from helping out. The last thing that I did for my project was being a runner for a speaking competition at Islands High School. My friend and I got up on a Saturday morning and headed over to the school. We got assigned to a class where the kids were to be called in and take their test. I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…
