“Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever."- Mahatma Gandi. For my service learning project I chose to volunteer at my schools Agriculture area. Many people were there including myself helping out and trying to keep it nice and clean. It was a very fun four hour experience I met some new people,I also learned how to plant many types of plants and trees. It wasn't as bad as I thought considering that it's a get dirty job, but it was fun to do. I would recommend bringing a pair of old jeans and shirt because I wasn't prepared at all and I was uncomfortable while planting. When I first arrived to the place I was ready to work, but at the same time I was ready to fall asleep. The instructor arrived and told …show more content…
It helped out instructor because we did a task that would've took a whole semester to finish. The issue I see in our society is people aren't picking up after themselves and leaving a mess everywhere they go, that forces other people to clean up after them. It has become a big issue because they see that people are doing it for them, so they think it's ok to liter and someone will come pick it up. If we could enforce some type of law that would make people throw away their trash the world could see a drastic change in the environment around them. Some solutions to solving this problem can be fining the person that litters not a big fine but a small one so they can learn from their mistakes. Possibly give them some type of warning that would make them feel bad for littering. We need to know about these issues, we are the ones that started it in the first place. We have some people getting together in different parts of the world trying to stop the problems we have with our environments. If we all just threw our trash away we wouldn't be harming anything or anyone, but not many people seem to care about the world thy live

Also the grass that was cut out was not thrown away instead it was put somewhere else so that it later could help the grass around it. It was good to see that there were other volunteers helping too doing different things. One of the workers that was helping out too told us how they go every day and try to maintain the trail and the center itself. After this, my group and I began to gather supplies and set a final date to begin our projects. In the surrounding area of Woodside, Queens there are many issues in which should be fixed in order to provide a happier living environment for its residents. People toss litter around like a game of basketball, except there’s no hoop around to aim it in (simile and irony)! Although it is a personal choice to litter and be impatient to locate a trashcan, lack of trash bins for disposable waste is a major issue. Let’s say you go out for a walk with a bag of chips.…

During my two volunteer experiences I participated in for the service learning portion of this class, I had the opportunity to witness many different walks of life. I was taken in on a side of poverty I’ve never before seen, and on a very intimate level. My first volunteer experience this semester was at a local food pantry, the Pratt-Quigley center. The neighborhood around the food pantry seemed very run down and poor. Shortly after arriving there, we were directed to the room where all the food was stored after it had been donated, waiting to be sorted.…
