For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

My experience at the Houston Food Bank was rewarding, fun, and enlightening. It was rewarding knowing that I was filling bags of rice to help those in need. At one point, I went outside and saw a long line of vehicles waiting to get food, and that, made volunteering worth it. It was an enlightening experience because I have always thought the Houston Food Bank was for homeless people, but it is not. It is for working people who have a hard time buying groceries after paying their bills.…

“The magic happens when you step outside your comfort zone.” This proverb sums up everything I went through when I recently attended the Air Force Academy’s Summer Seminar in July. While there, I was pushed well beyond my limits. We, the attendees, did strenuous physical training sessions at roughly a mile above sea level, woke up before the sun rose, attended sample classes, and studied tons of military knowledge while learning about the Air Force Academy and the admission process. It was truly a challenge being there, and I loved every minute of it!…

When I think of a christen Moral life one of the first things that come to mind is the Bible. I would go on to say the morality of a true Christian would necessarily come from the Bible. It declares what is right and what is wrong for man in God's sight. The Scriptures indicate that when a person has been forgiven their sins, by trusting in Christ as the one who paid for those sins by dying on the Cross, that they will have a new life. This new life, as a Christian, is to be different from the common thinking of the sinful world, putting aside the former ways of life.…

Because service learning classes offer hands on experience, they allow students to see if a certain career would be a good fit for them. Not only did these classes offer Young hands-on experience, but they also introduced her to a new style of learning. “It made me kind of disappointed going to other classes because I felt like sometimes I would be just memorizing things out of a textbook and that I could be using my education for so many other things,” said Young, “or that I felt like I was learning more in service learning than I was just sitting in a lecture.” Besides the experience, connections made with instructors and other peers help students feel like they are a significant part of a larger community.…
