1. Briefly describe your work history and your history of community service or volunteering, if any.
To date, I have had a total of three jobs. For my first job, I worked as a Student Assistant for the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the USF Tampa campus. I held my position as in this office from August of 2015 until July 2016. Currently, I work as a Finance Intern for a company known as Advanced Recovery Systems full time, and I also work at Panera Bread part time. During my high school career the vast majority of my community service was done at two different middle schools. While at each middle school I would assist the teacher with grading the students work, and I would help the students with their assignments. I participated in Bull Haul during my first semester at USF and in the process made some of my first college friends.

If I join in with group for the New Moon Beach Cleanup, all I would need to do is show up to the beach with a positive attitude. The individuals who are hosting the event are also providing everything that will be needed to perform the cleanup. A personal barrier I would face in this situation would be interacting with strangers at the event because I am an introvert. If, instead I decide to do a cleanup on my own with a group of friends and family, I would have to do a lot more planning. In that planning I would face practical barriers such as finding a time that would work out for all the individuals who would want to partake in the cleanup. A benefit to going to the event that is already established would be that I would not have to deal with this practical barrier. Along with planning a time that works for everyone I would have to either provide all the tools necessary for a successful cleanup or get everyone to pitch in and provide these

I’ve been cleaning up the beach since I was ten, always bringing a trash bag along with my buckets and shovels. It was nice to be a part of an organized event and to work with other people who share the same love for the ocean and care about the health of the beach as much as I do. We walked from 67th to 82nd avenue which at first, I thought it was going to be an overwhelming amount of walking, but it really wasn’t that bad and overall I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Even though what we did that day did have some immediate effect, the preponderant impact and fruit will take longer to achieve. But I know that every time, I see a new neighborhood or a new school or even a new hotel being built around this area, I’ll know I preformed a small act that contributed to its creation.…

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

During my high school career I have been actively involved within my school’s community through Mini-THON, school newspapers, SADD, and part time employment. Mini-THON has been predominant throughout my high school experience; I have been an active member of the Mini-THON committee for the past three years, following the footsteps of my grandparents, Gary and Millie Christ, who served on the Four Diamonds Advisory Board for over two decades. Being a part of this committee includes organizing fundraisers, and preparing and decorating for the annual Mini-THON. These tasks work toward having a special night that honors the Four Diamonds. The Four Diamonds Fund is dear to me, as many members of my community have been diagnosed with childhood cancer.…

What role do you typically play in (*a) group? When I am in a group setting, without a doubt I take on a mediator and leadership role. For example, when I mentored and tutored 5th graders, I had to not only be the authority figure, but I was responsible for listening to their problems and concerns and providing them with the best resolution. Being a mediator allows me to be a silent leader for the reason that I can lead people while they feel like they are a leader as well.…

I have always been a community engaged scholar, maybe not in the actual program, but in the spirt of the program. I have always loved being in the community and learning and helping with what needs to be done. Being part of this program, I believe will help me to be able to find avenues for this passion and give me the resources and ability to do these things in my chosen field. I have had multiple opportunities to be an engaged member of the community, including volunteering and fundraising for a local homeless shelter, food bank, elementary, middle, and high schools, local city councils, and local youth ranches. I have loved all of these opportunities!…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
