I gathered a few kids from every section of our high school band and we went to the daycare and showed kids what our instruments did and even let them play some of our instruments. I loved doing this because it gives me contentment to see these kids smiling and having a good time. My goal was to raise kids awareness for music before middle school so they have a stronger interest to be involved in music. Throughout the year, I volunteer at our town's middle schools to help kids with playing the clarinet. I believe by giving back to the community it gives me better overall life satisfaction, when I help others feel good, I feel good.

Participating in community service also provides cognitive benefits. I help volunteer at Park Square Manor, a retirement home, and teach chair yoga. I began doing this my freshman year with the Avon High School yoga club. We believe it is important for everyone to be able to find serenity, no matter the circumstance. While doing so, I get to meet many different people with so many interesting stories. It's rewarding when they tell us how much they enjoy us coming. By doing this, I enhance my personally knowledge, grow from new experiences, and increase my interpersonal

I have completed many hours of community service and I believe that it is my responsibility to involve myself in my community in any way possible. Getting involved in the community helps build a strong character and it teaches certain values that will benefit other communities. Speaking of community improvement, it is also my responsibility to pay any taxes set for me by our state and federal governments. Without taxpayer money, it would be impossible to maintain many of our most precious and crucial government funded organizations. Service, while it does benefit me, is meant to help those around me. Service is valuable in high school because it teaches me the importance to aid others in every way that I can. Service also provides a happiness that I will carry throughout my life until the day I die. The joy on a child's face at a spring carnival when they finally win a prize, or when they look in the mirror at the creation you painted upon their face benefit my soul. The smiles on the faces of people who wander chilly New Albany streets when they hear your carols ring out around them helps to make me realize the importance of community.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
