Media is another reason why negative ideas and conflicts are spreading rapidly. Many horrific events have occurred in the last few years and advice should be given after these actions are committed. Numerous questions pop in my head as I think about this topic like, “Why do people have to be labeled?” In today’s society, the physical appearance of an individual is what gets them where they are. Why can’t people be seen for who they truly are? The reason for this, in my opinion, is that people use stereotypes to judge others.
A panelist mentioned a Martin Luther King Jr. quote that should be analyzed. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” If hate is the only thing being shown, love will never shine through, therefore; things will remain the same. People expect things to change even if they do not. I wonder why some people cannot see past the physical aspect of a person. Certain police officers use their power wrongfully. One once said, “Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.” I absolutely agree with this statement. This leads to protests. One of the comments made on “Sli.do” that really stuck with me is, “There is a right and wrong way to protest. In order to protest, you must know what it is you are protesting.” People often get carried away when it comes to protesting. They get sidetracked and cannot focus on the real problem. At the end of the day, all we want is equality and
