Community Project

The assignment I was assigned was to do a community project for my community or anywhere that needed some significant help. What I choose was to pick a park near my home in Stockton which is called Panella Park. This was an ideal place because, everyone enjoyed the park when I was a kid, however no one really comes by anymore because of the increase of technology. With this I decided that I wanted to pick up the trash that laid there because of how much fun I had when I was kid. This was basically the place where I had grew up, my friends from elementary would come here when they were finished with their homework or activities. Too many memories of that place is still there, and sometimes I go there to relax and just enjoy how quiet it is. Even though it is always littered with glasses

I had basically went around the, basketball courts, playgrounds and baseball court. All of them consisted of water bottles and gatorades around the area, which was basically something that I foresaw when doing this project. At first when I picked up my first couple of bottles, I thought this is dumb. Even if I do make a change right now, it won’t remain the same regardless of what I do. Then I remembered that, nothing in the world is easy, you have to initiate something in order for something to happen. So I was picking up the waste, I was surprised with how many random types of bottles I was able to find, plus some food cans. I then took the bottles home, and double wrapped it in plastic bag, so I could take it home and think eventually what I should do with it. I know that there is place in Stockton where I could take all of the recyclables I was going to do it, last weekend but completely forgot. Thus I know that once I head back to Stockton this weekend I will do

Mahatma Ghandi once said, “It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action.…

My big home project was accomplished at Chase High School instead of it being completed at my home. Mrs. Kraus provided me and a fellow student ( Ashlyn Cox) the opportunity to clean the concession stand in the gymnasium so it would be clean for the Prom. We cleansed the concession stand with Oxygen Orange which is an all purpose cleaner and can clean almost anything. Prior to heading to the location we gathered four wash rags and we each had our own bottle of Oxygen Orange. When we arrived to the concession stand it was an absolute mess.…

In No Impact Man, Colin Beavan discusses many important topics, one of which is about trash. This topic got my interest because we see it everywhere, Colin goes into detail and discusses a lot of facts about it. An interesting observation was made regarding the black color of trash bags, that the reason trash bags are black instead of transparent is because people do not or cannot deal with seeing what is inside of them. Another related topic that always gets my concerns is recycling our waste. There are a lot of people that don’t recycle and just don’t care.…

Unlike most students, I would be proud to say that my life is trashed. During my freshmen year, my parents and I decided that I would be able to handle my first job. With all of the potential employment options set in front of me, I had no idea which path to set foot on. Little did I know that choice was never an option; my journey had been predetermined for me. I was set to pick up where my older sister left off, the Jamestown Youth Litter and Conservation Team.…

Project Citizen has been a wonderful experience. That has taught me many things that I can apply to my daily life that I may have never even thought of if I didn’t do Project Citizen. Even though I had a great time doing this project, I learned most people like to do less work and especially if someone is willing to pick up their slack for a better grade. When working in a team it gets a little hard to find motivation unless you all talk and make a clear plan of what people are doing for the group and when they need to have it done. There were times when our group lost focus really easy and we found ourselves scrambling with things that could have been done if we would have just sat down and defined a day that we wanted it done.…

We spent a whole day at my school doing simple tasks such as garden cleaning, moving old furniture, covering graffiti, repainting old walls and stairwells. In the end, volunteering had a huge impact not only on me but also the community around me. It enabled me to connect with my community and make my school a better place. I realized that helping out with the simplest and smallest tasks can make a drastic difference in society. If we were to lose physical space, people would surrender their desire to obtain public good.…

Over the course of the semester, we have discussed the negative consequences resulting from the way we, as a society, dispose of our garbage. Most of our trash generally ends up in landfills where harmful chemicals are washed off exposing surrounding areas to harmful pollutants which are then able to cause extensive damage to both the environment and the species which inhabit the area. This method of waste disposal, while convenient for both major businesses and individual civilians alike, has already proven detrimental to the planet and its many species, and has called for a change in the way we manage and dispose of these toxic materials. “Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things,” answers that call by providing a number of feasible solutions and changes we can make, not only how we discard our trash, but also how we can avoid the need to create any more.…

I also looked up the most of the seats to check if there are any soda bottles left, unfortunately, almost all people left their trash, and people did not seem to care about them. They showed no reaction to this matter as if it was just a typical norm for people to do. To be honest, I was surprised to see all the people’s reaction and their behavior. My reaction toward to this norm is definitely surprised, before I picked up this norm for my project, I had almost no idea of how people pollute the environment by simply not respecting the others work. Although, I was one of them who does not follow the norm, I obviously do not feel very good about the result because it shows that how lazy we have become that we do not carry our thrash to the door to throw.…

I was busily working at school on a Friday when I heard some stunning news: the President of the United States, Barack Obama, would be coming to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska. “Have you heard Obama is coming to Kotzebue in a few weeks?” asked Mr. Gindt. My class and I were informed about the surprising news from my lively teacher during class and thought he was messing around cause he’s the type who jokes about things a lot. I didn’t think it could be true because I couldn't picture Obama being in the same little town as where I lived. I contemplated about what I heard all day and tried to process it through my head whether it was true or not.…
