The police are the public and the public is the police as Sir. Robert Peel said. Community policing was formed to move away from the isolated and detached model of policing that only respond to a complaint, they rarely interact with the public so therefore community policing are formed to serve the community. Polices respond to crime is more important and responsive to community needs then communicating with the community in a daily basis.

Moving to a community policing model will create number of advantages both for the policing and the community. Such as: more effective use of and increased resources, increased access to information through community cooperation and vigilance, adjustment of service demands to the actual needs of given neighborhoods, proactive approaches to address social determinants of crime, identification and resolution of disputes before they escalate, dismantling stereotypes by police of community members and vice-versa, increased mutual understanding, increased public approval, decreased citizen complaints, community as a resource rather than an impediment to police, empowerment and power-sharing both within the police service and with the community, increased police visibility and accessibility, increased accountability to the local community for police actions. The final advantage in moving to community policing requires a new set of skills for police officers, to increase education standards, an increased level of professionalism and a wider pool of candidates. They are recruiting the best and brightest people from universities, and also different nationality like the aboriginals, Asian, south Asians, etc. This allows police services to be reflected better in the community in which they serve and enhance partnerships and open lines of communications with the community they are surrounded that may have a tendency to mistrust members of law enforcements. As there’s more barriers still to overcome, Canada police services came a long way becoming open, culturally competent partners in our
