With the assistance of her dog Harli, Brown travels throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex educating the public. “I go to different schools and libraries and educate people on how to care for their pets. The other day I was speaking in an underprivileged area and people were asking me a lot of questions. I was just thankful for the chance to talk to them all. They may or may not listen but the more times they hear it, the more it sticks,” Brown said, describing her education work as her soapbox. When thinking about what led her to this position, Brown remembers a turning point. “There are few careers working with animals. When there are, they don’t pay a lot. I finally reached a point where I said ‘You know, there're more important things than a paycheck.’ Brown has a true passion for helping others, either teaching them about proper pet care or about the services that the HSNT provides. “The services we provide are very valuable. We offer low-cost spay and neuter services, lost and found, and more to the community.” Another successful community outreach program that Brown participates in is with CBS DFW. Brown brings a different dog into the station to be featured as the ‘Pet of The Week’. This feature on the news help brings about awareness of the HSNT and what they offer to the community.
