When looking over the Common Core State Standards from the Loveless reading, he took a very negative approach on what the standards would change about schools. The part that was most interesting to me was when Loveless referred to furthering teacher development with the Common Core Standards. Through the Common Core Standards teachers will get further development through changing teaching styles, implementing mentor programs, and providing ongoing support. When looking through teacher development there was many different sources that all had interesting ideas on how to change the teaching styles in the classroom. “The Common Core State Standards for English Language and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical subjects have…

This assignment will be investigating patient choice in relation to personalisation, the rational for this chosen topic is because Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is largely weighed in patient preferences, which will be explored throughout this essay. Sackett et al. (1996) describes EBP as ‘the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients.’ The main driver behind EBP in health and social care is ‘the delivery of the best possible care, for professional accountability and to avoid negligence claims.’ (Aveyard, 2013)…

Collaboration is a big part of the world we reside in. It is extremely difficult to be able to make decisions on your own and go down the route of your own choosing without restriction. We are bounded by different stakeholders and different entities that we have to learn to work with and compromise on certain issues. As an Applied Anthropologist, going into the field and applying it into issues that affect a community one must be ready to work with groups that may have other views and opinions on the situation and effectively and civilly work with one another to improve the conditions of that community.…

Content area literacy is an important part of a students’ literacy development. My definition is that it is the part of literacy that helps students comprehend different subjects and the information that comes with the content. A student will not be completely successful if they do not fully understand what they are supposed to be learning. This puts a great deal of pressure on our shoulders as teachers to make sure our students can read and write successfully in all content areas. My past experiences with content area literacy has not all been positive.…

This assignment will critically reflect on how Learning Outside the Classroom engages and supports children, as well as analysing how effective the approach is and the impact it has on children’s learning and behaviour. Learning Outside the Classroom (LotC) is an umbrella term which covers every type of learning experience which occurs outside the classroom. The particular focus of this assignment will be learning outside in a natural outdoor environment, which is also an important aspect of Forest Schools, however for the purposes of this assignment I have chosen to take my focus on just this, as well as discussing how I can use this knowledge to develop myself professionally as a trainee teacher. There are various studies to suggest that learning outside the classroom helps to aid a well-rounded and enhanced education for children, where they are given the opportunity to excel and flourish as young individuals. There are countless links between LotC and children’s attainment in…

The Community Nursing (3QQ3) course has been an eye opening journey for me in to the world of community nursing. At the start of the initial course doing the practice tools I was quite apprehensive and had no idea what to expect. It was hard in the early few weeks to see how this course would evolve. But, as I became oriented and more familiar with the community the bigger picture began to form. Indeed, the windshield survey was a great tool to assess our community.…

As I began this class in January my definition of curriculum was based on the academic coursework teachers use to instruct the information. Now my definition of curriculum is anything that falls under the auspice of the school that includes coursework, classroom arrangement, instruction, assessment, student engagement, and community involvement. My perspective is curriculum is what students learn in and out of the school. We need to teach students to become learners and problem solvers for the 21st century. I currently work at The Academy at Penncrest High School through the Simon Youth Foundation.…

I have always wanted to open up a community center for youth and their families. When I was younger, I was always hanging out in places that I should not have been because I there was nothing else better to do. As you might can guess, I often got in trouble and was introduced to a lot of things that were really harmful to me. I could barely go to the mall without getting into trouble. I wished that there was a safe place that I could have gone to meet new people and maybe get help for my drug and alcohol problem.…
